Windshields & Cabin Glass Panels

Windshields and glass panels for all vehicle types, depending on the thickness and the glass treatment method, are divided in two categories: Laminated & Tempered Safety Glass panels.

Laminated

The name of this category is derived from the English word “laminated” which refers to a layered sheet. A glass panel of this category consists of two glass panels with a sheet of PVB between them. These materials have been treated under specific temperature and pressure conditions, in special pressurised heating furnaces [autoclaves] so that they form one single body which is the laminated glass.

This laminated glass production method is mainly used for front windshield construction. There are cases however where we can find it in either rear, or side glass panels.

EC Directive R43 has imposed application of laminated glass in the automotive industry. In our country, the directive has become effective when posted in the national gazette on... .

In case of breaking, the advantages are numerous:

  • Glass is not shattered into many small fragments.
  • There are no serious injuries.
  • Driver is not losing visibility and road condition awareness.
  • Passengers not using a seat belt are not thrown out of the cabin.
  • Thieves are not encouraged by a shattered glass.

Laminated glass is available as:

  • Simple laminated
    made using the production method mentioned above.
  • Heated
    Windshields of this category incorporate heating elements placed between the two glass layers. The windshield is heated gradually resulting in gradual thawing.
  • Athermic
    Windshields of this type contain between the two glass layers a film of special athermic PVB, which blocks solar radiation and heat. Thus, we have improved climatic shielding of the vehicle as well as energy savings when using the air condition.
  • Acoustic
    A sound insulating PVB windshield reducing strong sounds from the exterior, rain etc.

Tempered

Glass panels of this category consist of a single crystal of application dependent thickness, hardened at high temperature.

This achieves total collapse of the glass into very small fragments when breaking. This category is used for side, rear, heated and fixed glass panels. They are also available in various colors according to manufacturer recommendation.
